Founded in 1969, Atlas Machine Company opened for business in a 4,000 sq. ft. building in northwest Baltimore.

In 1972, Sam J. Sackleh became an equal partner, and co-owner of Atlas. The company prospered under his leadership and landed contracts with several large local companies, including Bethlehem Steel, Maryland Cup, U.S. Steel, and AMF Corporation.

In 1978, Mr. Sackleh was joined by his son Jerry, who assumed the Vice President role. His other son John joined Atlas in 1987 to head the production department. That same year, Mr. Sackleh purchased the remaining shares to become sole owner of Atlas.

In 2009, Jerry and John were promoted to President and Vice President, respectively. They continue to successfully run the family business; increasing sales while decreasing the cost of general labor. Atlas is now well-known within the Aerospace and Defense industry as a reputable hardware supplier. The company continues to work with some of the industry’s giants, including General Electric’s Middle River Aircraft Systems, Lockheed Martin, and GKN Aerospace.
